I’ve had a number of people inquire about the benefits and availability of and differences in standing desks. The thinking and various opinions in the media and in general are that standing desks can help to solve a range of physical issues, reduce fatigue and assist in weight loss. But is this true?
A friend of mine is a senior ergonomist and physical therapist and has quite a few years under her belt in both of these realms. She’s a specialist in her field, yet she continues to search for answers to problems and questions those answers when she gets them. In that vein, she posted the following article on LinkedIn entitled “The Myth of Standing at Work” by Greg Dempster, a consultant in ergonomics, industrial safety and what is called “the human factor”. If you are curious about the debate on whether it is healthier to stand or sit at your desk all day, you might want to take the time to read it. It is enlightening.
