The Danceworks Board

WAIT, WHO ARE THESE ADORABLE PEOPLE?

Only the cutest, most awesome, sassy, sexy, flawless dance family ever! At Danceworks, we’ll love you to death. We’ll cheer louder than anyone and scream your name at every show. It’s the friendliest environment you could ever want to perform in.

We like bright colors. We like glitter. We like Beyoncé. No, we are Beyoncé. And we like to Work, Work, Work, Work, Work, Work.

We’re overly enthusiastic and overly excited about ALL THE THINGS and NOT SORRY AT ALL. Outside of practice and our fantastic shows, you might find us busting out a chair dance in the middle of a party, sassing it up at football halftime shows as Beyoncés, not dropping that thun thun thun in a silent floating dance party, having all the feels at a So You Think You Can Dance live show, and suddenly appearing in flash mobs on Old Campus.

But you’ll never truly understand what DW LOVE is unless you JOIN US!

MEET THE FALL 2018 BOARD

DARWIN EDWARDS III, BF’19 – Co-President

Darwin Edwards III is a senior in Ben Franklin College (originally from Saybrook). He’s been dancing with Danceworks since his first semester at Yale, and is proud of the meaningful work Danceworks is doing for all the members of the Yale community.
“Running this organization is like running a small town, but it’s super meaningful work that we’re doing – giving people a space to express themselves and feel empowered is so important!”

AIVY DUONG, ES ’21 – Co-President

Aivy Duong is a sophomore in Ezra Stiles College. She’s been involved with Danceworks since her first year, and considers Danceworks as one of her favorite and most rewarding extracurriculars at Yale.
“The thing that I love most about this company is that we’re honestly more than just a dance group- we’re one big ‘ol family. Seriously, it gives me so much joy whenever I see any of you walking down the street because I see you and I’m immediately shouting, “AH you were in so-and-so’s dance this semester!! You were amazinggg!”. The overwhelming amount of support in this group is unmatched.”

MIKEY VAN DER LINDEN, PC ’18 – Treasurer

Mikey is a junior in Pierson majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Previous dance qualifications include Woads and one middle school talent show. When catching his breath from dancing, he’s running, playing piano, or building space stuff in the CEID. He is also the reigning 90-time consecutive loser of the Hamilton lottery.

ALEC RODRIGUEZ, TD’18 – Facilities Coordinator

Alec is a junior in Timothy Dwight College studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology as well as fulfilling pre-medical requirements. He would rather spend more time with cats than textbooks (and people). However, he doesn’t go outside of his way to find cats so instead he chooses to watch Netflix and dance (but not at the same time).

OLIVIA TRACEY, TD’20 – Choreographer Liaison

Olivia is a freshman in TD and pre-med. Her favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy, and her favorite thing in life is Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter, and if you ere to look for her at Yale, she would most definitely be in either Atticus or the Blue State on Wall Street drinking an iced latte.

VALENTINA CONNELL, MC’20 – Social Chair

Valentina (aka Val) is a freshman in Morse, probably majoring in Poli Sci or WGSS, and spends all of her time and money on Blue State. On campus, she’s a Staff Writer for the Politic, a Conference Committee member for the Women’s Leadership Initiative, and a cohost for a radio show, but Danceworks is definitely the place where she has the most fun and has made the coolest friends. She’s excited to plan the litest DW parties because she loves the new social chair life.

KRISTEN WRIGHT, TD’18 – Media Manager

Kristen is a junior in Timothy Dwight, majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology as a pre-med. When not dancing gloriously to any form of music, she can be found reading, watching a movie, marathoning on Netflix, or going through Buzzfeed videos. She is also a proud Kappa sister and an ambassador for Yale and QuestBridge. She enjoys being a part of Yale UFLIP (Yale Undergraduate First Generation – Low Income Partnership), and watching dance videos (yo Wildabeast). Her high school senior students that she advises through Yale Matriculate bring her great joy, and she loves being both a mentor and a friend to them. To her, Danceworks is life, and she is so glad she joined.
