It is still inconvenient for people to get on the island now, tourists need to take high-rail after flying to Haikou or Sanya international airport. Danzhou, the governing city where the Ocean Flower Island belongs to, doesn’t have an existed airport. The government has considered and planned to build a new airport (with a total estimated investment of 1.5billion RMB) in Danzhou to drive the growth of the local economy and support the tourism in the future since 2012. Nevertheless, the progress is not going well. The airport site selection hasn’t been determined in 2017. Danzhou airport has been listed as an important infrastructure building in “13th Five-Year Plan” by the Chinese government since 2016. In the future, tourists may get to the Ocean Flower Island by taking cruise, flights or high-rail according to the development plan.
Moreover, there is a regulation in Hainan Province that people without a Hainan Hukou won’t be able to purchase a vehicle in Hainan. Tourists or the properties owners have to rent a car or rely on the transportation facilities on Ocean Flower Island to go different places. There is no specific instruction announced. Will the Ocean Flower Island allow people to drive their own car on the island? If non-green vehicles can drive on the island, will the green concept be affected? Will Ocean Flower Island consider offering electronic vehicle rental to the property owners?
