Edublogs, a popular educational blogging service, has its annual Edublogs awards underway. I found out about it from Edutopia on Twitter, one of my favorites for insights into ed-tech trends in K-12 education in the U.S. Although voting procedures and the production of winners in these open competitions are anything but transparent to me, it’s an interesting exercise to scan the nominees and take the pulse on blogging in schools. I enjoyed scanning this list (for what it says about the contest’s view of how blogging in k-12 breaks down) and sampling some of the entries. One of the great things about blogging is the range of voices you encounter. I especially liked the sense of pride of the “individual student” winner, who has used his blog to reflect on Asperger’s and educate others about it. I also liked the up-to-the-minute blog of the educator (winner for the “individual teacher” category), who is now reporting on a code.org coding challenge for k-12. Nice range of content and perspectives.
